My Approach
Structural Integration is a unique form of bodywork developed by Dr. Ida Rolf. Structural integration addresses the fascia and connective tissues of the body. As a structural integrator we approach the body from the concept that form follows function As a certified Soma practitioner, I employ many techniques from osteopathy, physical therapy, somatics, manual therapy, movement and psychology. These techniques are used to manipulate and change the form of fascia in the body and balance the tensions and compression in the body. As a result, many report improvements in function, feeling, and a new body awareness that helps them to work within their range of limitations. You can have the entire series performed or stand-alone treatment sessions.
If you are looking to improve your athletic performance, rehabilitate from surgery, or release emotional trauma from the body, S.I. is right for you.

It is important to note that only select schools teach and certify structural integrators. Though these concepts seem simple, to employ them one must be trained and certified by a school recognized by the IASI. If you are looking for a certified S.I. practitioner, you can search for one here.

The 11-Series
Soma, a form of structural integration, features an 11-part series. Each session systematically addresses individual structures of the body and their relationship to others.

Session 1 focuses on the ribcage, torso, spine and neck.
Session 2 solely works on the lower legs, feet, and spine.
Session 3 is done side-lying and covers your feet, hips, spine, shoulders, and neck.
At this point, some may take a break or continue further into the series.

Session 4 begins work on the core. This session focuses on the adductors and the pelvic floor.
Session 5 addresses the anterior pelvis and deep core muscles such as psoas and iliacus.
Session 6 works on the posterior pelvis. It features very detailed spinal work. Starting from the pelvis and working each spinal curve.
Session 7 concludes the core with targeted neck, shoulder, and cranial-facial work that includes optional intra-nasal and intra-oral release. This is good for those with TMJ, whiplash, and sinus problems.
At this point, some may take a break or choose to continue further into the series.

Session 8 and 9 mark the integration portion of the series. These sessions help to integrate each individual structure of the body into an entire working organism. These very important sessions re-establish lost movement and break unhealthy movement patterns.

Session 10 specifically addresses the shoulder girdle, forearms and hands. This session can be done as a treatment session and has proved to be beneficial for those with carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet, and tendinitis.
Session 11 completes the series by using a technique called arthrokinesis. Each joint of the body from the little toe to the shoulder itself is given a random pattern of pressure or pull. This allows the tendons and ligaments to release and re-orient. This final session lulls your brain to sleep and "resets" those joints.

Included in the work is a "Journey Book", this is an opportunity for self-reflection and awareness training. The emotional traumas we experience in life show up in our physical body. This journaling helps one to integrate what they are experiencing in their mind and see how it affects their physical body. Many experience improved relief from anxiety and stress. As a client experiences how they can heal from physical and emotional traumas, they feel greater joy and happiness. Not only do they function better but they also feel better in their body!
